November 23, 2008 Donny and I were in the same bull fighter school put on by Duane Hargo at Gary Lefew's ranch. Donny was a cool guy. I only recently heard about the accident. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Dan Jackson
November 7, 2008 Mr Donny Martin. this great man wasn't just a bull fighter he was a friend to those in need. I got hung on BB horse and as i tryed to save my self as donny would say.donny was the first guy their.most people dont have a clue what its like to be hung in a riggen along the fence and feelin almost helples.i do.But then the next thing you know donnys draggin ya along wile pullin your hole damb riggen off.and by then your so exostid to hardly say thanks to a man that posibly just saved your life. thanks donny ... i graduated highschool in 05 and have been chasin the money to this day. I was in Fallon NV helpin my cuz Chanley iverson on some SB horses when all the Martin family was their and had that tribute.I think some times God just needs a great man a little more than we do. I herd Donny say more than to once to save your self man and dont stop trying, because try is what makes a person. That was some of the best advice i ever got. Dranen Iverson
October 4, 2008 donny, it has been three months since you left us.I miss all of your nasty comments and dirty jokes.I listen to my saved voice mail constantly to hear your voice.I miss you in the worst way!I know that some day our paths will cross again, and when they do I will give you a big hug.I love you my brother!Rest in peace.Your brother and friend,LARRY
September 19, 2008 Well Donny, it is the first night of the finals. Justin Davis rode with an unmounted horse, with your high tops on the saddle around the arena. I don't think there was a dry eye there. We all knew that you were looking out for our bull riders and the folks from Cottonwood. DJ, Keith and Danny had some really nice rides with high scores. We are going to go make another visit to see JR next week. He isn't doing to well, and thinks about you all the time. You are missed by so many people. I know that in the rodeo world and in life, you will never be forgotten. We love you, Our Buddy Donny Rotten.

September 18, 2008 Donny has been my dad's best friend for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I'd always go to the rodeos and they would fight bulls together. Growing up he was always like a second dad to me and he was "Uncle Donny". He was probably one of the crudest but funniest people I've ever known and I'll miss his jokes. He was a great guy and I sure hope he's happy where ever he is now!
September 8, 2008 Donny, It is hard to believe that the Red Bluff Jr. Round-up has come and gone. Missed having you there. It was the first rodeo I had photographed since you went to fight bulls in GOD's arena.
They released a single white bull into the arena in your honor. He wandered around for a few minutes before Alex took him out. It was the first time I have cried since you've been gone. Miss you my friend, but know that you were looking down on us yesterday and smiling! There were some amazing rides, but the bulls got all the points.
Love you and miss you always.

July 30, 2008 Wow. What a terrible shock. I just got the news yesterday. It seemed like the world was a little less bright. Donny was so full of life. I've known him for 20 years now. He was just so damn fun to be around. The things he could say that would make you blush and crack up at the same time. What a devil!! That grin, though... I'm sorry he's gone. My heart goes out to his family. We were lucky to have him for the time we did. He will be sorely missed. We all loved you Donny.
~Sherise(Hall)Timothy
PS- You'll always be my brothers hero. Man, how he worshipped you!
July 26, 2008 I Love You Uncle Donny!!! Kaylin Martin
July 22, 2008 Last Satuday night was a great tribute to Donny and the Martin Family can be very proud of a great man. It was so great to see you guys. Thank you for let us celebrate the life of a man that would give you the shirt off his back anytime or anywhere. It was exactly like Donny would have wanted it to be with friends, family and acquanintances. It was truly a celebration of a man I will dearly miss. This was a special day that I will always remember. Donny will always be the "Man". Bill Stevens
July 21, 2008 I knew Donny about 20 years ago through some friends. He was always the life of the party and had everyone around him laughing all the time. I was saddened to hear of his passing, he will be greatly missed! Nikki
July 15, 2008 Donny was at the first rodeo I ever went to, and he is the only person I looked forward to seeing at every rodeo after that. His energy, support, and love for life was always uplifting and makes me want to be a better bullrider and person.
I'm in Alaska now and until I heard about Donny I didn't know if I would get the chance to ride again. Because of Donny's love for rodeo and the ability to somehow just make me proud of what we do, I will honor Donny by riding in one of the only bullrides I can find in Alaska. It may not be the CCA, but we are proud of what we do and love it.
Thank you Donny for being amazing.
My prayers are with the family. Courtney Stevens
July 14, 2008 When my son, Glenn, was eight I took him to the Penn Valley Rodeo. Glenn knew Logan, and called him, "Uncle Logan", but did not know Donny.
As the rodeo began Glenn came up to me and said, "Mom, when I grow up I want to be a Rodeo Cop." I asked, "What's a Rodeo Cop?" Glenn pointed down towards the arena and there was Donny. I said, "Why do you want to be a Rodeo Cop?" Glenn answered, "Because I like their uniforms."
I told Donny that story and I remember he laughed and said, "We do have the coolest uniforms!"
While my son did not grow up to be a "rodeo cop" he did grow up, and every year thereafter when my son attended the rodeo I would point to Donny and ask him if still wanted to be one.
When I told my son about Donny's passing my son simply said, "I will never forget the greatest rodeo cop whoever lived!"
Glenn was right.
Donny lived.
To the family: Mary, Jim, Logan, Larry and Lena, please know you're in my heart and prayers.
Onward by faith...Gina Gippner-Woods
July 14, 2008 I was in my local feed store when I noticed a flier about Donny. He was great to be around during my days with the penn valley rodeo. He was kind, thoughful and a pleasure to know. He will be missed by all. My thoughts go out to the family.

July 14, 2008 My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Martin family. Donny, you will sorely be missed. We will all have memories of you touching our lives in one way or the other. Oh and by the way thanks for making me feel better about my COWBOY CADILLAC!!! RIP Lisa and Steve Ramos
July 13, 2008 We haven't been super close, of Course, but Donny will be a spirit to remember for ever. we will always cherish the memories Lisa and Craig Harkey
July 11, 2008 I had tyhe oppertunity to hang out with Donny at a couple of rodeos as he was my friends bullfighting partner Ralph Higgins and what I saw in Donny you don't see in many people and when I heard the news of his death I was shocked but I wrote this for Him
For Donny
Life so young slips once again through the hands of time. We know not when we shall be called home to our father. Our loved ones feel this loss and wonder why ,while we are at home and with angels we now fly.
We mourn the loss of a friend , but find solace in the fact that he now rests in our fathers handsand that when we are called home he will be waitng for us at the door.
Donny you are loved and missed very much RIP Brother
Cassey Garell
July 11, 2008 When I got back to my hotel room, last night, after Donny's Celebration Of Life...I couldn't sleep. So many thoughts, memories, music, words. My head was so full, I thought if I emptied it onto a piece of paper, I'd be able to get some rest. Well, what follows is an "arrangement" of what was in my head. It even has music to go with it.
FOR DONNY
Hey, little brother
What's it like where you are?
Do they love you like we do?
Did you get your own star?
I sure hope the pastures are all green over there
No fences to hold you
No worries, no cares
Hey, little brother
We sure miss you down here
Could you lend us your courage
To get through this pain and tears
Yes, we need to move forward
I know you'd want it that way
I swear I hear your voice sayin'
"Just kick ass and take names"
(chorus)
You can't tame the wild wind
You can't lock up the sky
You can't cage an eagle
You gotta let that bird fly
No one could hold you down
I know many have tried
I guess you finally found freedom
It was a hell of a ride
You always stood on your own feet
And you wrote your own rules
Worked hard and played harder
You were nobody's fool
Life's rewards don't come easy, just gotta takes things in stride
Live like there's no tomorrow
Make the most of the ride
Now your chapter has ended
But your spirit lives on
You sure did more living
Than most lives twice as long
We all know you weren't perfect
and made mistakes now and then
But, you're still my hero
My brother, my friend
(chorus)
Man it sure was a party
When we all said "good-bye"
We told our own stories
Of how you touched all our lives
Were you watching from Heaven?
As we all laughed and cried
And drank a toast to "Donny Rotten"
Sure was one hell of a ride
Gonna miss you, little brother
But, what a hell of a ride

July 11, 2008 Mary, Hal, Logan, Larry and Lene you are in our thoughts and prayers. We wish we could be there today to celebrate Donny's life. He is one of a kind and was an inspiration for many. His smile was contagious and his kind heart was unforgettable.
Even though years have divided our paths your family is never far from our hearts.
Donny until we meet again. May there always be green pastures and stocked streams. We miss and love you.
Wendy and Deana Louden
July 11, 2008 I will miss you forever Donny!!! I will never forget that time at Penn Valley Rodeo when my Dad broke his ankle and couldn't help me in the arena with the mutton bustin. You came right over and told me you would help me. I felt so special to have the best bullfighter chasing my sheep. When I entered my 1st CCA Rodeo in Taylorsville, you were there and told the secretary to just write me a check cause this 8 yr old barrel racer is gonna kick some butt!!! I remember going to Missy's after school and you were always happy to see all of us kids. I always remember when you told me to be true to myself and keep wearing my jeans and boots to school and I STILL do that proudly!! I am only 10yrs old now but I know I will NEVER forget you. Love Always, Bailey Bean
July 10, 2008 Just read my comment and noticed my "oops" my condolences to Mary... and of course the whole family. Jim, Debbie, Mary if you don't remember me I am Lowell and Norma Coffman's daughter. I will think of you all tomorrow and I wish I could be there but I am attending my cousin's funeral and I leave for Alaska next week or I would be at the rodeo as well. God Bless You! arol "German" Dewey
July 10, 2008 To all this my concern:
The MAN
Your one in a million,
And I ain't Kiddon,
You always had that great smile,
You would always joke and kid around but only for awhile,
Tell Mr. Jeff comes a hollern,
Man we got bulls to be a haulen,
And he would just tip his hat, and say see you all later then,
Down at the ol bar again,
You could always have a good time with this man,
From behind the shuts to that 'ol arena stand,
HE was the man,
That was Proud to shake your hand,
We all Loved you so much,
You where my best friend and I loved you a whole Bunch,
Every time you fought that bull and tipped your hat at the end,
The Crowd stood up and clapped because 'Ol JO JO was always adorded,
You lived everyday,
To fight every bull that came your Way,
But that 'Ol bull on that unfaithful day,
Took our Man away,
To heaven they say,
To fight for a liven,
Now God's got the best that had ever been a Liven,
Donny Martin is his name,
But Bull Fighting was his game..
To my best of Friend
My Hero
that inspired me to Contract Bulls,
TO a love of bulls that had no end,
In Loving Memory

July 10, 2008 When loved ones pass beyond this sphere
Into eternity,
They take the fondest memories
Of friends and family.
They take their dreams and longings,
And aspirations, too,
Especially eternal goals
Which they may there pursue.
Though we may not behold them
While yet we here remain,
We know they've stepped into the light
Beyond earth's toil and pain.
Their sorrows turn to gladness,
Their tears to untold joy,
As they encounter heaven,
And love without alloy.
Could we but gaze a moment
Into their smiling face,
We'd know that they'd ascended
Into a heavenly place.

Although we haven't spoken in years, I have many fond memories of all you Martin Boys. Who knew three crazy brothers would turn out to be such wonderful men! Mary, Larry, Lena and Logan please know that you are in my prayers.

July 10, 2008 Donny was someone I always looked up to.I Barrel Raced all through Jr. high and High School Rodeo, and a year of CCPRA, I was only about 11 when i met the Martin brothers at a Nor Cal Jr Rodeo, back in 1984-85. I remember Larry and I both won "All Around" Buckles that day. Donny taught me how to be a "Good sport" on those not so good run's and taught me to "Buck Up" when I wasn't doing so hot in life. I will NEVER forget his advice, and I will never forget his "Heart of Gold" A TRUE Cowboy he was!!{something that is few and far between} Some of my fondest memory's was when he and Kristine were married, We had a lot of FUN together, Rodeoing,Dancing,Tack Room, Etc...
My deepst Prayer's go out to Larry and Lena, Logan, Tony and Anna,Donny's Parent's, and all the family and friend's. The Bull Ride event on 7-20-08 in Penn Valley is going to be AWESOME!!I won't be surprized if their is 100+ entry fee's on that day! God Bless, Amy Hannan
July 10, 2008 My thoughts and prayers go out to the Martin Family, Jim, Sandy, Larry and Logan; I haven't seen you in years including Donny but I have thought about you all so often. You are all such wonderful people and I know only time can heal. My heart goes out to you all! Carol "German" Dewey
July 10, 2008 I lived with Donny and Lisa for about 6 months in 1997 and enjoyed Donny so much, he made me laugh all the time! He will be missed so much. I am so happy I had the chance to meet and get to know him as well as I did, what a super guy! I wish I could make the services for him, but I was due with my 2nd child on Monday the 7 and am unable to leave town. My thoughts are with you. -Sarah
July 10, 2008 To the Martin / Novack and extended family. I am so so terribly sorry. May God bless you in your time of sorrow and always. May you find some peace in knowing how truly loved and adored your Donny was, the hero he was to so many, and the legacy he left behind. You are all in my thoughts always.
To Donny. There are so many things I still want to say to you. Every day that you were in the hospital memories just flooded back to me like it was yesterday. You have made such a huge impact on me and who I am. I have learned so much from you. I try really hard to find peace in knowing that you lived and died doing what you loved the most. Your life was cut so short. But in those 42 years you have lived more and touched more lives than most could ever accomplish in lifetimes. You stayed true to yourself. You followed your dreams and you left such a huge impact on all of us. To know you was to love you. I feel honored and blessed to have ever had you in my life. A part of me dies with you Donny P. You are such an amazingly wonderful man. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. I know that you are looking down on all of us and I can only hope that I can make you half as proud of me. You will be so terribly missed. May you rest in peace Donny. Heaven is now a better place. Keep them laughing up there for me Donny P, I'm gonna need it. Until we meet again Cowboy. Love you.
Love to You All,
Kristene

July 9, 2008 We have lost a treasure and a truely special man. I will miss your smile and warm hug. We always looked forward to every rodeo. A professional, a role model, you always had time to say "Hi" to everyone along your way. I'll miss you hollaring from the chutes during the trickriding, you were always so supportive of us. You made Josey feel so special from the time she was a little trick rider asking for your autograph, to the big brother you became. Your love for your Mom,family & rodeo shinned in your eye's. I've been fortunate enough in my life to know others, who like you, passed away doing what they loved. Connie Griffith, Lane, I believe that is a special passing God saves for very special people. To your family my prayers are with you in your pain, I can't imagine. THANK YOU for sharing Donny with us, WHAT A TRIBUTE FRIDAY WILL BE. As the rest of us go on in this life I know you will be watching from above,Rest in Peace Dearest Donny.

July 9, 2008 You will be the only one who ever has and only had and ever will call me "Lerch"! We had a lot of good times together brother and one of my best friends for life. You've helped me in that arena many times and now my son Cody, who idleized you. I will see you again! For now, you give 'em hell in that arena in the sky. Ed and Jeanine Ellis and Family.
July 9, 2008 Hal & Mary, I extend so much sympathy in the time of your loss. Donny's passion for saving many bull riders from harms way has touched my heart. He is truly a hero in so many eyes. Living life his way has left a large impact on many people. My love to both of you. Katie @ CCPRA
July 8, 2008 I first met Donny at a rodeo in Fallon Nv in 1987. He had the kind of personality that you just wanted to be around. He had a way of making people around him better, making them believe in themselves and that they could ride anything. I later moved to Penn Valley with him and Kristene where we were going to Rodeo full time, that was our dream. It's wierd how life takes you down different paths. You get a little older, you have a wife, a couple of kids, a mortgage, all sorts of responsabilities and you lose sight of that dream. Well Donny never did, he lived the dream every day and he passed away doing something he truely loved. So GOD BLESS him and here is to LIVING THE DREAM. I will miss you. Your friend Matt
July 8, 2008 I'm so sorry - my thoughts and prayers are with you.

July 8, 2008 Friends like Donny are few and far between. The memories we shared were priceless and unforgetable. To honor a man is unheard of nowadays, but to say your name is an honor. The rodeo life is never easy, and we have lost many friends in the past, however none have hurt like this. I remember Donny telling me, when I was afraid to get on a bull, "you have to live to die", and my friend you did. Thank you for all the memories, all of the laughter, all of the lessons, and most of all for living life the way you did. Fight one for all of us!!!!!!
Dan Comer and family
July 8, 2008 Although many folks from Donny's youth have never met me, I have been "Pops" to Donny for 23 years. He as well as His brothers and sisters, have been dearly loved by me. I can't even begin to count the number of times Donny gave me a big bear hug and said "I love you Pops." The day of his acciden was Father's Day, and He left a message on the answering machine saying he loved me and wished me a Happy Father's Day. I listen to it daily and miss Him so much. God Bless all of you who loved Him as I did, Hal
July 8, 2008 Mary, Hal, Logan and Larry. I'd like to say I am so sorry for what you are going through. I lost a brother years ago and it is a hard thing to deal with, but harder for the parents. Please talk with the people closest to you when needed.
Donny is a friend of mine and he will be missed. It seemed our paths crossed on a regular basis and I will miss that. As you know, he was tough, kind, helpful, and rowdy at times. His popularity is obvious by all the peoples lives he touched. He has saved, and changed many lives also.
There is a big void in rodeo and in northern California now. That void will be felt for some time to come by many people.
Donny was always game for just about anything. (I guess we will have to wait to go skydiving now) He even helped me fly the plane back from Chiloquin rodeo after I broke my shoulder so bad. We made it. He was tougher than woodpecker lips and it showed. He showed up at my trailer at the McCarthur fair beat to a pulp after tangling with a cage fighter. I cleaned him up, dropped him off at the stock truck and he fought bulls the next day in Lakeview. Anyways, I'm kind of rambling, but these are all thoughts that come to mind when I think of Donny.
Logan, I look forward to hearing the poem you will write about your brother someday. I imagine it will probably be funny, serious and heartfelt.
Mary, I miss seeing you around also. Maybe we can catch up soon.
My heart also goes out to Jeff and Terry. Donny's extended family.
In closing I'd like to say: I truly feel sad for you all, but think of the lives Donny has affected. So many people in so many ways. He was definitely larger than life.
Until we meet again.

July 7, 2008 Martin Family,
I had the pleasure of knowing all of you in school...boy has it been a long time. I am very greatful that I had the opportunity to have known Donny. As many have said he was always the 'life' of the party but also the one that everyone could count on as a 'true' friend. Sadly many years have passed since I have seen any of you. However from the many post that I have read, Donny was still the great guy I remember from high school. Please know that you all have always been in my heart and memories. Some of the best memories of my life. John 12:24, says that "unless a kernal of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds". Donny has touched so many lives (produced seeds)and for that you should be proud and find peace. Donny also loved his life and what he did. John 12 continues to say that "the man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life". Donny is home because he 'loved' his life!!! I pray that you will find peace and comfort in knowing that Donny is home and looking over all of you.
Gods Blessings to you all,
April
July 7, 2008 Goodby my Friend! We all will miss ya! Ted Dwyer
July 7, 2008 I REGRET THAT I DID NOT FIND OUT SOONER, ABOUT YOUR ACCIDENT DONNY, SO I COULD HAVE SAID GOOD-BYE! I REMEMBER THE CRAZY THINGS WE ALL DID AS KIDS GROWING UP, BUT UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT KNOW YOU THAT WELL AS AN ADULT! HOWEVER FROM WHAT I HAVE READ AND HAVE HEARD, YOU WERE A VERY WELL LOVED MAN!
REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER!
LOVE KELLY
July 7, 2008 Donny, (Larry, Logan and Mary too..)
"A sprite straight up!" Donny told my 7 year old son at the 2008 Carson Douglas Rodeo cook shack.. not knowing what to do,Markus said
"HUH?" Donny then said: "how about a Sprite on the rocks?!" Markus finally got that Donny was teasin' him (and really not knowing what he meant.) and promptly set down a cold can of Sprite! "This is what we have, do you want ice with it?" I was crackin' up inside and I knew Donny must have been too.. Donny smiled and with it came a chuckle that Markus has not forgotten, nor have I. I guess it was really a Sprite straight up with a side of "on the rocks" offered! Impressions Donny made, whether 1 or a million and 1, they have lasted within us all. Hugging Donny for me was a feeling of never wanting to let go as he literally saved my sons life in 2007 after a near minute hang-up. I later felt I did not thank him enough or say enough...although he assured me many times I had...when we were told of his tragic yet heroic accident, we met with his most amazing, calm, welcoming brothers and mom, Mary. The stories you all shared with my son and my son shared with you were not only heartwarming, but heart FILLED. I Thank YOU all for allowing us the time to be as close as we could get to Donny given the circumstances. I further appreciate your brutal honesty in protecting him as you knew best. Lastly, I just need to say... I have never witnessed in my 37 years of life anybody belly crying as I have seen in the past 6 days. Not only my son but, his friends Blaine Tibbals and Mike O'farrell. This has rocked their soul. (as of course many others.) Although my memories and story is among many, every single person that has written something is struck deeply by your brother and your son... Mary, thanks for raising a kick-ass cowboy. All that Donny helped or spoke to, or joked with has left a lasting impression on them. Donny YOU, YOU have made a difference in all these kids' lives.. in a very big way... and you have made a difference in my life, not just before saving Spencer you and Dan..(Kudos to Dan also big time..) but today, you have made me see things in a more light way, a more "don't sweat the small stuff" way. And yes, my 7 year old now says goodnight to his big brother like this: "goodnight fag!" and for some reason....I'm o.k. with it.--Kori Oesterling, Carson City
P.S. Mary, Larry and Logan... stay as strong as your genes look-a-like... always stay strong in your hearts and never let anything get in the way... you all showed a true example to my son in the waiting room of being together. Also, you guys knew how these kids (and moms and dads etc.) must have been struggling with the shock of it all and took time to give them a piece of Donny's shirt and coming out to Fallon - With all you have going on, that is true respect for the rodeo community and true respect for your brother. Thanks boys. xoxoxo
See you soon.. Kori Oesterling
July 7, 2008 Dear Mary,

July 7, 2008 I have thought about your family every day. Wish I lived closer and I could give you each a big ole hug. My heart is full of prayers for you and your family. Kim, Sugar's mom
July 6, 2008 Donny, your THE TOUGHEST son of a gun i will ever know. you always were pumpin me up before my bull rides and tellin me to grow a pair and not to be a pussy. always crackin jokes and tryin to hit me with the dam hot shot. you have changed my life along with many others that knew you. last year, when i got hungup for 58 seconds, you were there EVERY second of that and more. i have told you many times how thankful i was that you and dan were there. and now, with you up there in heaven, i hope you really understand what im talkin about. from standin on chairs in resteraunts and tellin jokes (in yerington) from teachin my little brother how to fight without a bag of popcorn in his hand, you were there helpin us no matter what. and for that donny, i owe you. youve got a GREAT family down here and many people that love you. i know your watchin over us up there while were ridin donny. thanks for doin what you loved and bein who you are, youve helped me become a better person. dont cause too much trouble up there.

July 6, 2008 Donny told me once that he wasn't afraid of pain, and now I can see that. For the past year I have been looking forward to finaly doing H.S. Rodeo, with him there watching and supporting me along with the rest of my friends and family. But he's in a better place and I know he'll be watching. When I found out how Donny died I was confuzed. Then I realized that if he didn't help Matt then he would have most likely thought it was his falt that Matt got hurt. So im pround of him. Im also glad he treated me like family. I hope he's proud of my two brothers and i for doing rodeo.
I love you Uncle Donny !!!
love your buddy, Brianna Lee
July 6, 2008 Donny was always the life of the party ,he always had something nasty to say about what he did to your mom, or what he was going to do to you. He was one of tthe nicest guys in the world. He was always willing to help you out. I will always remember last Cottonwood rodeo, Donny and i put up all the banners around the arena, he wouldn't just tell you this is the way its gonna be done , he would ask your opinion. Im so happy i was his friend,I loved listening to all his sick and nasty jokes. Im gonna miss them.Donny.... I am glad you and i were friends and im gonna miss you bud. Keep them Bullriders safe up there in heaven and I will see you again someday.
Love you bud
Justin Lee
July 6, 2008 My heart expands when I think of Donny - the smile, the energy, the way he radiated life. What a blessing to have known him.
The bull riding world has lost a great ally. I'll keep Donny in my thougts, especially while working every PBR.

July 5, 2008 to the martin family,
my family will keep all of you in our prayers, god bless your family from ours ride148.com
July 5, 2008 I Love you Uncle Donny. I wish I could see your smiling face just one last time. It's hard looking at pictures of you or just thinking of the great times we had. Like the time you came to Lake Almonore during Easter and we went fishing and watched Pearl Harbor. I'm gonna miss you but I know that you're with Mary Jordan and all of the people that we've lost in our lives. We are going to Bryan Coursey's funeral(you fought bulls for his cousin Micheal). We met his family in the ICU waiting room and immediatley became friends. I hope that you'll introduce him to Jay Peard. I've heard that Bryan loves to party. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH UNCLE DONNY!!! I know you'll be there to greet me when it's my time to go to heaven. Have fun fighting bulls in Gods rodeo arena. Kaylin Martin
July 5, 2008 We just heard the tragic news about Donny yesterday. We didn't even know about the accident. We are so very sorry for your loss. Please feel free to call us. Infact, please make it a point to do so. God this is just awful. We will make every effort to come to Cottonwood. Mary please call us.......Randy and Nora Petrash
July 5, 2008 To a dearest friend and one of the most fun, caring men I had the honor and privledge to know for over 28 years. Back in the days in high school when I was a little twirp, doing the 24 hour Boreal ski marathons, all the fun times with the Rockholm's. You were always a kind, good looking son of a gun! I have nothing but the fondest of memories of you and your great smile. I tip my hat to you and all the lives you touched. You're a true cowboy! When I saw you at the Horsemans last summer and the good ole' bear hug we always did when we caught up with each other, was awesome! After loosing my Mother and Grandmother in the past 4 months, then you, my heart is pretty torn up. I miss you bud! I know you're in a place of peace with Mom and Grandma. When you told Grason to give me a swift kick in the ass every time he saw me and it was from you, I'll make sure he carries out your wishes! Ha Ha! God bless, rest in peace brother! Christopher Satterfield
July 5, 2008 Donny, the best time in my life, was when i lived with you and Kristene. Thank you for all the GREAT times, and for being such an important part of my life !!I will never forget you ! Mom,Hal,Jim,Logan, Larry, Lena & kid's - I love you !! Carrie
July 5, 2008 Most will remember you as a rodeo icon & hero,as for myself I will remember your big buff tattooed arms holding & snuggling our little nephew on the sofa smothering him with hugs & kisses after a rodeo, cussing me for not waiting on you to go bowling and hang with us. Your sense of humor I laugh remembering when you introduced me to George Dickle, Your BEAR HUGS & smiles lingering for hours as we laughed and told jokes yours were the best. Now I picture you snuggled on a big white fluffy cloud holding & kissing Mary Jordan our precious niece we never got to hold.Yeah your a rodeo icon ,hero etc. Donny, because you allowed yourself to be uninhibited showing compassion, sensitivity & gentleness who's heart was 1st to your family at home especially the littlest of them. Because of these qualities you were able to extend your caring heart to your rodeo family, fighting bulls, saving lives & following your passion for rodeo.
It's an honor to be your sister-in-law I will miss you. Oh Yeah ! and George.
Love
Terilyn
July 4, 2008 my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of donny. I have never met donny but had looked at his website a few times, and by reading all the stuff posted he seemed like a very great man that went from this life doing what he loved to do best and that was rodeo. god bless Justin Crawford
July 4, 2008 I had met Donnie thru mutual friends and cannot say that I knew him well. I do however remember his wonderful and warm smile. He was always so sweet and friendly. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Heather Wasney
July 4, 2008 Hey Uncle Donny!!! I love you and I'm soooo happy that you are my uncle. You touched so many people in your lifetime and everyone misses you. I wish I could of stayed in your room forever, but I know that you would never want to be anything less than what you were before this terrible tragedy.I'm gonna miss hanging out with you at the Penn Valley Rodeo but their putting on a memorial bullriding in your name and Jeff's gonna put on the best damn bullriding in the history of rodeo. I just wish you were there to fight. My anger is not at you but at me for being so selfish and wishing that you were back eventhough I know that you're partying with all your buddies and fishing in that peaceful mountain stream. I'll always love you and will carry you in my heart. Please watch over me in my years to come. Someday I'll see you and be able to talk to you again. It's only a matter of time. I LOVE YOU ALWAYS!!!!!!!!
July 4, 2008 Hey, Donny we well always have you in our hearts and you well be missed by all. Our family has known you most of your life and well remember you forever. My heart and love goes out to his Mom (Mary) Logan,Larry, and family he left behind. I was thankful to have known him and for him to call me Mom also. He was a good and upfront Man and loved doing what he did. Fighting Bulls. Donny you will always be loved and in our hearts. Sandy J and Danny G
July 4, 2008 We would sure like to send our prayers to your family. We have been following his story through our son Austin..We certainly are aware of how precious life is and how much you must love your "Donnie". Rick and Patty Whitmore Salinas, CA
July 4, 2008 We are proud to say that Donny was our great friend and feel blessed for the time that we had him in our lives. There are so many great memories with him that we will cherish forever. I could never thank him enough for all the times he saved Luke in every arena they were ever in together. He was larger than life to our little boys and his memory will live on forever in our home.Mary,Larry,Logan,Shelly,Kaylin, and Lena thank you so much for the precious time we had with you in Reno and letting us share our love of Donny with you and for letting us say goodbye.
Donny, we will miss you so much! Cooper will always remember Buckin Bronco through Holiday market and don't worry I will never take that dent out! It will remind me of you forever. Say hi to Clark for us. I'm sure two are up there having a shot of Pendleton for us all. Miss You Always
Luke,Kris,Durham and Cooper Pearson
July 4, 2008 To the family, while I may not know all of you, I feel as if I have known you forever. I haven't known exactly what to say or even what to feel. I honestly don't think that is has even really hit me. To go about town and to not see him anywhere is going to be rough. He was and still is a great and wonderful man. Donny was Donny and nothing else. He was so selfless putting his life on the line every moment for everyone else and not even thinking twice about it. In his last days there was no pain nor suffering, which is a true blessing, if there is one at all. His work on earth was done and he had accomplished everything that he was supposed to. Now he has work to do with the Lord and I'm sure they are kickin' up their heels as they watch over us. Donny, you may be gone, but never forgotten and you will live in our hearts and in our lives forever! Rest in Peace, we love you. Thank you for being you and showing the rest of us exactly how to do it. Kristi Taylor and family
July 4, 2008 Donny told our father, not too long ago, that he could "think of no better way to go" than to be killed by one of "his bulls". He loved those damn bulls. I suppose it should be a blessing that he died exactly the way he wanted to. I know that it is only my selfishness that causes me to feel so angry. He will be so dearly missed by so, so many people. He always had a huge grin on his face, we all knew he was up to something. Women were crazy about him, and men either wanted to kill him, or would die for him. He was wild and reckless, quick on the draw with a sharp wit and crazy sense of humor, he could make ANY story entertaining and was just plain FUN to be around. As raunchy and "redneck" as he was SO proud to be, he had a heart of pure platinum. Always a ready pair of big strong arms, to squeeze you til you passed out, every time you saw him. I always loved hearing the way he'd holler "HEEEEEEEEY SIS!!" whenever we all got together. I'll miss that.
I will always be proud of the man he was, honored to have him in my family, blessed to call him "brother" and friend. As I am of all three of the boys, who call my father "Pops". Larry and Logan will feel the loss more deeply than anyone (except perhaps Mary, his mom). The twins adored their big brother and the void that his passing will create, will always be felt.
Donny was one of a kind.....which, is actually probably a good thing. I know that I am not alone in my grief. Donny touched the lives of so many. I'm sure he knows how much he is loved and how we all will miss him.
See ya, Bro! It sure was one HELLUVA RIDE......wadn't it??
I am better for having known you.
Shannon
July 4, 2008 Mary, John and I can't begin to express our sorrow for you and your family at this time. Mom just told me this morning what happened. We wish we could be there to be with you on the 11th, but unfortunately we aren't coming back to CA for some time. Donny was the best in his field, and I know how proud you are of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. John and Karen Dunbar
July 3, 2008 Mary,Hal,Larry and Logan I am so very sorry for your loss. My words can't express what I am feeling. You are all in my prayers. Donny was one of the strongest and bravest men I have ever known and I am proud to say he was a true friend. God be with all of you Bruce Ogden
July 3, 2008 My Uncle Donny died doing what he loved. He got hurt making sure that the bull,Porkchop, didn't hurt any kids in the parking lot at the rodeo grounds. Anything can happen and he decided that instead of staying on the Paradise fire he was going to the finals to be there with the kids that he loved fighting for. If he would of stayed on that fire some kid at that rodeo could of gotten hurt and suffered the same fate as my Uncle Donny. He would of had it no other way.
A message to my Uncle. I'm damn proud of you for doing what you did and your the best man I've ever known. Eventhough I'll miss you, you'll always live in my heart. I LOVE YOU.
KAYLIN
LOVES

July 3, 2008 i only highschool rodeoed for a couple of years and didn't go much further beyond that, quite frankly i sucked at it, but i know four different times that donny came in their and took straight hits for me, when i showed up to a rodeo and knew donny was fighting it was an instant sigh of relief. i never met a tougher SOB and i never met someone who seemed to love what he was doing so much, i don't think their was any other way that he'd want to go, my sincerest regards go to the family, and friends of donny martin, it was a real pleasure to be introduced to such a man. Patrick Rogers
July 3, 2008 Rodeo has lost a great one. I had the honor of 'feedin' Donny each year at the Yeringotn High School Rodeo. He was especially fond of the breakfast burrito and my fried taters. Will miss that smilin face.
My condolences to his family. KayLyn Galvin
July 3, 2008 What a guy, that Donnie Martin. You never questioned him, he'd say what he'd say and was what he was... "Out There" in all aspects of the words. You loved him for who and what he did... FIGHT,(bulls and otherwise!)LOVE,& LIVE life to the fullest till the bitter end. Donnie was "THE MAN!"
He was and always will be a Hero. Loved by many and envied by the rest. He was... at times, a rider's Guardian Angel. Other times he wore his Angel out! Putting HIMSELF in front of another was a natural high, an instinct, never a forthright thought; just done in lightning speed. He was a Superman.
Donnie will be missed by all who knew him. Even those who will never have the chance will know who and what is was. His Legends live on in stories and memories told well after all of us are gone.He will be missed by FRIENDS & FOE alike.
Rest in Peace Dear Donnie for God must need you more then we do. So until we meet again keep those in Heaven on their toes! Stevana

July 3, 2008 Hi, I just wanted to say that me and my family are really sad about what happened to Donny, and we really loved him. A couple years ago my boyfriend and his 2 brothers, Brian and Aaron, were riding in a rodeo in Red Bluff and Donny saved my boyfriend's older brother, Brian's, life. My little brother, Hayden (4 yrs. at the time), was behind the chutes crying because he didn't know exactly what was going on. All he knew was one of his favorite people just got hurt while riding a bull and he wasn't moving. He really wanted to go out and see him, so that he would know he was going to be ok. Donny came over to the chutes and saw Hayden crying, so he grabbed him and took him out to see Brian. My brother (6 now) still remembers Donny to this day. He was very sad when I told him about Donny. And we're all going to really miss him! Corissa Clyde

July 3, 2008 I had the pleasure of meeting Donny many years ago-- back in our "Penn Valley days". We were both young at that time and we lost touch. I have often wondered where this cowboy settled. After viewing this website, I can see that he truly followed his dreams. He was always a joy to watch, and was always looking out for others. I will always be grateful for the memories I have of him.
Always keep him in your prayers.
Donny Martin, you will be missed. Lisa Browning
July 3, 2008 Hal,Mary,Logan, and Larry. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
We did not have the pleasure of meeting Donnie, but we felt like we knew him and we know that he had to be an awesome son, brother and friend to many. I am sure that he will be greatly missed down here, but they must have needed someone like Donny in heaven.
I can only imagine how difficult your loss is but be strong for each other. Donny will be in your hearts forever, remember all of the good times and celebrate his life here with you.
If we can do anything please let us know.
God Bless, Tim and Lori

July 2, 2008 Donnie might be gone, but his spirit is still circling around every rodeo with his hand of protection helping his fellow man. His first family and his other families are the cowboys who ride, who he worked with and shared the goodtimes and the rough times. His other family was the fans. He always enjoyed meeting and never passed up a handshake. Now he's up there with the other greats. Say hi to Lane and the rest. We will miss you because you were the best. Our prayers are with your family and friends. God bless, Donnie and the rest.

July 2, 2008 Myself along with all of the members of the Rodeo Attitude Sports Medicine team wish to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to in the tragic passing of Donnie. Donnie was a pillar in the rodeo arena and his presence will be sorrowly missed. We pray your family finds peace and comfort in this time of deep sorrow. We offer to you The Cowboy Prayer:Our gracious and heavenly Father, we pause in the midst of this festive occasion, mindful and thoughtful of the guidance that you have given us. As cowboys, Lord, we don't ask for any special favors, we ask only that you let us compete in this arena, as in lifes arena. We don't ask to never break a barrier, or to draw a round of steer that's hard to throw, or a chute fighting horse, or a bull that is impossible to ride. We only ask that you help us to compete as honest as the horses we ride and in a manner as clean and pure as the wind that blows across this great land of ours. So when we do make that last ride that is inevitable for us all to make, to that place up there, where the grass is green and lush and stirrup high, and the water runs cool, clear, and deep - You'll tell us as we ride in that our entry fees have been paid. These things we ask -Amen. Ann Brumback of Rodeo Atittude Sports Medicine

ONCE IN A WHILE
By: Billy Dean
Once in a while, someone comes along.
That one in a million heart,
So pure and so strong.
They can face up to the tears.
And somehow still find a smile,
That we only get ev'ry once in a while.
Once in a while, someone has the eyes,
That one in a million look,
That never tells lies.
They can get you on your feet,
To walk that extra mile.
We only see ev'ry once in a while.
That's why we call them heroes.
That's why we know their names,
And once you've heard their stories,
You're never quite the same.
That's why we call them heroes.
The best thing they ever do,
Is to point to the best in us all,
And say: "If I can, you can too."
Once in a while, I still hear his voice.
That one in a million sound,
Like two laughin' boys.
He would hate it if we cried,
That never was his style.
Oh, we still miss him ev'ry once in a while.
Ohh.
They can face up to the tears.
And somehow still find a smile,
That we only get ev'ry once in a while.
Oh, how I him ev'ry once in a while.
