On July 1, 2008 at approximately 2:30pm PST, the sport of rodeo and the world of professional bullfighting lost a great man.  Donny Martin passed away at a Reno hospital while receiving care for injuries that were incurred on June 15, 2008.  He was severely injured while helping a fellow friends by doing what he does best and distracting a bull, so that it did not get out into the parking lot and around other people.  In the course of events, he was struck by the bull at full force.  He was at the California High School Rodeo Association State Finals being held in Bishop, CA.  Donny was flown to a nearby Nevada Hospital with severe head injuries.

This page is designed to give friends, family and fans a piece of mind.  You will be able to place your thoughts, questions and concerns.

  IN THE LINE OF DUTY

At a high scool rodeo in Bishop, California
On June fifteenth, two thousand and eight,
A bull thundered down an ally
And through an open gate.

My brother, Donny Martin, ran around the corner
As the bull headed for the parking lot.
He and the bull never saw one another,
And Donny took one hell-of-a shot.

He sustained serious injuries
To his head, neck, and brain.
The doctors said should he surive
He'd never wake up again.

For sixteen long days he laid there
In a deep comatose sleep.
Then on July first, two thousand and eight
He hung up his bull fighting cleats.

He journeyed to God's arena
Way up there in the sky,
With questions down here still unanswered
Like where, when, and why.

But he went loving what he was doing
And he went doing just what he loved.
Now he's fighting bulls for God himself
In that great arena up above.

He's probably steppin' around Watch Out,
A black bull from his past
That always had Donnys' number
And usually kicked his ass.

Or he's mixing it up with Fonzy,
That big red Bramma bull,
Steppin' in towards his shoulder
And takin' him to school.

I picture him standing 'round the beer booth,
Cussin', and tellin' dirty jokes,
Holdin' court like he always did
For hours after the show.

Even though he's gone from here
I know he'll never be forgotten.
He was a brother, a son, a bull fighter,  a friend-
And his name was DONNY ROTTEN!

Untell we meet again, may you rest in peace.
I will mis you.

My family and I want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support we have received.

We would like to thank each and everyone who came out on Friday to share in the life, the love and the memories that we have all been able to have created in our lives by the great Donny Martin.  There was a larger than expected turn out.  Which is a wonderful thing.  To be one person and have such an impact on so many lives.  We are truly blessed.

We had a celebration of life for Donny on the 11th. It was at Jeff and Terrys' Four Star Ranch in Cottonwood. We were blown away at the amount of people who jumped in to make everything perfect for the occasion. Between 800 900 people attended the celebration and there was a beautiful ceremony with soft music, a pastor and a Piute friend of ours who sent Donnys' spirit on its' way. While Paul was singing, a young bald eagle flew over, made a circle, and landed in a near-by tree, then he flew off. After that it was time for the party to start. We had a wonderful tri-tip dinner, an open bar, and dancing.
Once again I would like to thank EVERYONE who made it such a special night.

The 19th there was another celebration of life, dinner, dance, auction, and raffle at the Penn Valley Rodeo Grounds. Here again, I can't thank EVERYONE enough for making it such a great success! We all had a wonderful time and got to see alot of old friends.
On Sunday, the 20th, they put on a memorial bull riding, and, once more, what a super day!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of you wonderful people!!!!!!!!!!!!

All money raised will go into a High School Rodeo Scholership Fund in Donnys' name.
Thanks again, we love you ALL!!!!!!!!
